Pinning Ceremony

What is a pinning ceremony?

Pinning of newly graduated nursing students dates back to the 1860s.  Florence Nightingale was awarded the Red Cross of St. George (pin) to recognize her service during the Crimean War.  She in turn shared this honor by pinning her nursing graduates.  This time honor tradition continues as a standard throughout the United States.

The SFSU Sequoia/Sequoia Nursing Students need your help in raising funds for the annual pinning ceremony. The most recent cohorts celebrated their pinning ceremony at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco’s Marina District and it was a wonderful celebration. Help us keep the tradition vibrant by either donating or helping volunteer at the ceremony.
